Established in 1860, the Academy of Saint Elizabeth is the oldest high school for girls in the state of New Jersey, a designation that affirms the highest levels of tradition, excellence, and vitality. Our rich history is the result of the vision and determination of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, the religious order founded by the first American saint, Elizabeth Ann Seton, and the legacy of the Academy’s foundress, Mother Mary Xavier Mehegan, who was in the forefront of the commitment to educate women so they could participate more fully in modern times.
