Local Resaurants in Millburn-Short Hills, Summit, Maplewood, Chatham, Madison, Harding and Westfield ...

Our area offers some of the finest dining in New Jersey and just because we’re in the suburbs doesn’t mean the diversity and quality of cuisine found in nearby New York City is lost here. From elegant French and contemporary Italian to rustic American and spicy Thai, there’s a restaurant for every occasion and taste.

To avoid disappointment, please call ahead to confirm whether or not a restaurant is BYO. Licenses can change, better safe than empty handed!

And please check back often! This list is a work in progress, only a fraction of the area’s restaurants are included. Also, if you have any suggestions or opinions on a restaurant in the area I welcome your input!

324 Millburn Avenue
Basilico Restaurant, located in Millburn, New Jersey was established by co-owners Mario DeMarco and Angelo Delbecchi, formerly of Sergio's, also in Millburn. Basilico has a definite New York look and feel, which reflects in our food items. We use the best of ingredients. "Casual and chic" is how we have been described by reviewers. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable and energetic. Our goal is to maintain the highest level of hospitality, remembering that you are the guest, and it is our ultimate goal for you to leave thoroughly satisfied. Special requests can be accommodated. Not only is the art pleasing to the eye, it also contributes to the acoustics of the room, facilitating intimate conversation at each table. Restaurant Lorenas
168 Maplewood Avenue
“Restaurant Lorenas is a Seasonally Inspired French Restaurant located in Maplewood, NJ. On June 15th, 2005, new owners Chef Humberto Campos Jr. and fiancé Lorena Perez came to Maplewood to pursue their dream of having a quaint and romantic restaurant. As an alumnus of the C.I.A. and a graduate from New Jersey's top kitchens, Chef Campos will be offering a French based menu inspired by the seasons.”

Rated Number 2 of top 10 NJ Restaurants by Star-Ledger, Jan. 1, 2006: “Our number two restaurant of the year and our other 4-star rating of 2005, Lorena's (168 Maplewood Ave., Maplewood, 973-763-4460), got off to a running start in the building occupied until May by the much-loved Jocelyne's.

Chef-owner Humberto Campos Jr. kept the understated French atmosphere, but added his own masterful voice to the menu. One of our favorite dishes there was the seared Hudson Valley duck foie gras ($18), with a vanillascented dried fruit relish and a Banyuls wine reduction. An interesting entree involves medallions of pork confit ($24), sweetened with caramelized apples, chestnuts and baby carrots. For dessert ($8) you can still have "traditional" créme brulée, but those who want something a little different should try the warm pear tarte tatin, with a warm quince sauce and vanilla bean ice cream.”

255a Main Street
This BYO Tex-Mex on Main Street in Chatham is open for lunch and dinner. The dinner menu features such favorites as fajitas, enchiladas, burritos and fresh homemade guacamole. Vegetarian selections and kid’s menu also available.

Scalini Fedeli
63 Main Street
Originally opened December of 1995, Scalini Chatham is the second restaurant opened by uber-chef Michael Cetrulo. The restaurant was constructed inside of a 260-year-old New Jersey farmhouse. Its interior features high vaulted ceilings, antique pine floors, and a sense of style, which evokes a distinctly Tuscan feel.

The cuisine, modern Italian with a distinct French flare, is some of the best in the country. ZAGAT Survey rates Scalini Fedeli, “#1Italian!” and in 2003 it was rated “#1 favorite in New Jersey overall!”

6 Roosevelt Avenue
For over five years, James and Nancy Sheridan Laird have maintained the highest possible dining standards at their elegant restaurant, Serenade, by presenting exquisitely light French-influenced food to discriminating guests. Dinner at this jewel-like restaurant has been described as the “truly luxurious eating.” Adjectives such as “outstanding” and “attention to detail and an obsession with freshness” are frequently used by guests (Zagat Survey).

St. James Gate Publick House
American, Irish Pub Fare
167 Maplewood Avenue
“Over in the heart of Maplewood Village, father and son duo John and John Mead Jr. have established their own following at St. James' Gate Publick House. Although only open for 18 months, this family has been able to capture the spirit of an Irish pub. Father and son travel to Ireland as much as possible and have imported wooden tabletops made in County Derry, Ireland. The unique floor was made out of old pressed Guinness vats.

The 80-year-old bar is the centerpiece of the pub and a wonderful place to catch up with friends. Sit in a comfortable booth or relax by the fireplace to enjoy hearty dishes such as the Gaelic-style steak with wild mushrooms and Irish whiskey sauce or the roast chicken. The menu also features authentic Irish classics. The chef is a Maplewood native, John Murphy, who is of Irish heritage. Familiar and friendly with customers, Murphy goes out of his way to make everyone feel at home.

St. James' Gate is gaining a reputation for its wonderful Irish breakfast complete with rashers, bangers, grilled tomatoes, fried eggs and brown bread. It also rates high for Irish coffee. John Jr. contends that his ‘great-grandfather's recipe for Irish coffee with fresh whipped cream is one of the best.’” –North, Claudia Sidoti, March 2005

Real Estate Tips
Working With An Agent >Listening To Your Needs

Some buyers purchase the exact kind of house they said they were looking for, in the neighborhood they preferred. Other buyers surprise us by falling in love with a house that is the complete opposite of what they originally wanted.

Real estate agents listen carefully when buyers describe their needs and preferences. We screen our current inventory of homes to come up with possible matches. Since there is almost always some compromise involved when selecting a home, we may suggest alternatives that might work for buyers.

If you like a specific neighborhood where there are no homes in your price range, we may suggest homes in other areas with similar amenities. If you want four bedrooms, and one of them will be used as a home office, we may look for a den or family room that could serve your needs. When you look at houses, remember that your feedback is important to us--and it won't hurt our feelings.
